Hey Banner Banner!
A concept in the works for a while finally manifested itself at Petworth Community Market last Saturday in the form of this big, muslin banner and a batch of vintage faux florals.
A Little Bit O' Vintage
One of the markets I help manage, Grant Avenue Market, kicked off last Sunday. It's personally one of my favorite markets around- super curated vintage, upcycled and recycled vintage goodies and in the city I live, Takoma Park! Enjoy these shots of my vintage inspired and old-fashioned goods (soy candles in vintage containers, literary coasters, vintage vases, old books, etc.) and other beautiful things from the day.
Opening Day at Fenton Street Market
Ah, it's good to be back home. Know the feeling? It's like stepping through your front door after a long trip. This was a super long winter and even though I've snuck in a market here and there, the season doesn't really feel like it's in the full swing until Fenton Street Market opens back up in April.
The Past Lives of Handmade Habitat
You may not know about my past life if you've only come across my candles in the past few years, but way back when I first started selling at markets, I made bags, clothes and scarves. I was a sewer by nature. Obviously, my business has evolved A LOT since then, and it's time for me to move on in life.
Silver Spring Festival Recap
I tried a new display for the Silver Spring Festival last weekend - a display you can walk all the way around. Check out this video of it by The Blairs and enjoy the steel drum background music - Saturday was almost like Spring!

A Church in Charm City
This past Saturday I took a rare trip to Baltimore for a day at the Baltimore Flea. They move it indoors for their few winter shows to this amazing, old church. I've got major space crush - and who knew that would ever happen to me in a church?! P.S. How you like my super awesome DIY arrows? (Yea, it is a trick question.)
Peeling paint, vaulted ceilings, exposed brick, skylights - and they decked out the whole place in the cutest lights. Plus a coffee guy. I'll just go ahead and move in!
I'll be back at the Baltimore Flea in March for their last indoor show! Check it out
Aaaand we're back! Market Edition
Yesterday I made my first market appearance of 2014 at the Flea at Eastern Market. It was a surprisingly warm weekend, so I made the rash decision on Saturday night to make a day of it, even though I'd been sick for a few days. You just can't pass up good winter weather! Plus I've been wanting to play with some new displays and whatnot. I'm a display nerd.
I'm going for a little more simple, a little less restocking for me throughout the day, and a little less of things to carry. You like?
This week, weather permitting, you can find me at the Fenton Street Market pop-up on Thursday evening and the Baltimore Flea on Saturday with lots of sexy candles, new solid perfumes and sachets for your sentimental hearts. I'll be doing some more Valentine's Day features on the blog this week, so stay tuned!

A Merry and BRIGHT Weekend is Ahead!
This weekend is your last chance to shop locally with me for the holidays! I'll be at Fenton Street Market on Saturday at The Flea at Eastern Market on Sunday. It's going to be bright and unseasonably warm, which tears me emotionally.
I studied Environmental Science in college (which is basically a super downer of a major) so the un-naturalness of the weather does worry me, but also I won't freeze to death this weekend, which makes me very happy as a marketeer. I'll be looking on the bright side of global warming this weekend. ;)
Mother Nature is sending us out with a bang for the season so be sure not to miss out! I don't have anything scheduled for 2014 yet so stay tuned here for info, and you can always shop online in my Etsy shop for your Handmade Habitat fix. (I'll be doing a Boxing Day Sale!)

A Day at DOMKU
In my little crafty clique, there is one magic word - one day a year that we all look forward to- it's like dying and going to craft heaven. It's proper name is the Upshur Street Arts & Crafts Fair, I suppose, but we mostly just know it as...
Thanks to Elsa of Little Peeps Emporium who made me go get the socks out of my car (parked two blocks away) 20 minutes before show time. I think every pair was picked up and snuggled on Saturday and two pairs found new homes.
Upshur was supposed to be outside on (duh) Upshur Street - no tents, live music & a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, this year we weren't so lucky with the weather so the fair moved indoors to three separate brick-and-mortars on the block that were kind enough to open their doors up to us - Domku Cafe, The Petworth Citizen and Willow Boutique. I was super lucky to be in Domku and though I'd never been there before, I had heard a lot about it and let me say - it totally lived up to the hype.
Exposed brick walls, vintage chairs with mod fabric on the seats, and lights galore. I'm ready to move in! Especially with their food - the coffee and cranberry and cardamom scone was to die for! It was all I had to eat all day.
After a year of wondering how the year was going to go, never having done this before - devoted myself full time to running my business - I can say this weekend made me really excited for the coming year. I've been thinking back to where I was a year ago and how much I've learned in just this one year of running my business - I'm really excited to see what 2014 will bring. It gets me thinking about my resolutions from this past year and what my goals will be for the next. Oh, the holidaze are wonderful! Here's to hoping we all share in this much joy. 'Tis the season, after all.
Happy Halloween!
Have a spooky Halloween everyone! Come pick up some candy and fall candles this Saturday at the DC Meet Market! 11am - 5pm at P & 15th Streets NW right down the street from a Whole Foods!
Saturdays at the Market & Fenton Finds
This past Saturday I finally made it back to my home market - Fenton Street Market in Silver Spring. It was a little rainy, but still a good time, as always. We're nearing the end of the regular season on the plaza which makes me sad. Here are some shots of my market faves that you can find every Saturday until the end of October!
Hand painted watercolor cards by Keith Patterson are putting me in the holiday spirit!
I like to joke that I am a walking advertisement for Catherinette Leather Works. I have 3 (and counting) of her wallets, and as of Saturday, a new green keychain!
I need need need this jacket!!! Come scoop your own Fenton Finds this Saturday in Silver Spring!
Booth Shot
As snapped by the amazing Nora of Nora Makes - teacup candles, sachets + eye pillows, matchbooks and soy + beeswax candles. Plus my collection of vintage dictionaries. Come see me at Cheverly Community Market this Saturday the 7th and the 21st! Excited to be vending at an actual farmers market for the first time.
P.S. Have you heard? Be the first to bring me coffee in the morning and win a free 4 oz candle! NO JOKE! Cheverly starts up at 8am. See you there!
Another Weekend at the Market..
When in doubt, and if you think I've been avoiding you, you can generally find me on Saturdays at Fenton Street Market. Enjoy the scenes from my latest and greatest display. Courtesy of a brilliant 70s bed sheet found at my mega thrift store.
Come visit sometime! FSM is amazing and the mini donuts made on the spot at the market are to DIE for. Seriously, they will probably be the death of me. ;) See you next Saturday!? Find treats you can't get online like those painted vases.
Craft Show Season is in Full Swing!

The photo above was taken on Saturday at Fenton Street Market's Opening Day! I'll be back there May 11 just in time for Mother's Day. This Friday I'll be on UMD's campus and Saturday, I'll be at the DC Meet Market on P & 15th Streets. Let's hang out before it gets too hot out! But until then, I'm always open for business on Etsy!

Nana Valentine Mart Recap
Thanks to all who came out on Saturday for Nana's Handmade Valentine Mart! I had a great time and got to meet lots of new and fun people, as well as get to know some fellow DC designers better. Enjoy some shots of my displays and some fun Valentines that kids were making all day. Follow me on Instagram to get my live photos!
Handmade Valentine Mart - this Saturday at Nana DC
Join me on Saturday at Nana DC for their Handmade Valentine Mart! It will feature lots of local DC artists with fun, unique gifts for your Valentine, friends and to treat-yo-self! I know I will be doing plenty of that this weekend.
Now you may have heard that Nana closed - they did close their retail space but they are keeping it to hold these sort of special events. So for Saturday, you can return to that beautiful little spot on Mount Pleasant Street and shop once more, and this time with all local designers, live music and lots of fun on a wintery day.
I'll be there with my candles, matches, scarves, socks, sachets and catnip toys. Come early and snag a tie for your beau!
