Latest Stockist: Pleasant Plains Workshop

Helloooo Petworth! You can now find Handmade Habitat soy candles and lovelies at Pleasant Plains Workshop right across from Howard University!

June Candle Subscription!

I was really excited to launch a new service in my shop: a candle subscription service! Every month, you can get candles and other treats delivered right to your door. This is what came in our inaugural delivery: a new lavender and eucalyptus candle, botanical matchbook and lavender painted post card. None of which is even available for purchase through the Etsy shop yet.

Subscribe to our candles and flowers mailing list to see what treats are coming every month and get a nice wrap-up of the latest on our new flowers, pups and candles lifestyle blog, Sunday Blossoms.

Lately: Custom Wedding Orders

It's officially wedding season! I have been getting a lot of custom wedding orders on Etsy lately and wanted to share some of my favorites:

Hey Banner Banner!

A concept in the works for a while finally manifested itself at Petworth Community Market last Saturday in the form of this big, muslin banner and a batch of vintage faux florals.

Summer Candles for Beltway Vintage

I always love a collaboration, especially when it's with Lisa of Beltway Vintage. When she goes hunting for amazing vintage clothes, she also picks up some vintage containers for me to fill with soy candle goodness. These babies are ripe for the summer pickin', scented with grapefruit and citronella - perfect warm weather fun.

It's a Process

As business gets busier and busier, I find myself knee deep in candle making more often than not. This batch above is for a bridal shower this weekend. I don't want to spoil the surprise for the bride whose Maid of Honor ordered these for her, so I won't be showing final pictures until after the shower- but believe me, you're going to want to stay tuned for these babies- they're some of my all time favorites!

A Little Bit O' Vintage

One of the markets I help manage, Grant Avenue Market, kicked off last Sunday. It's personally one of my favorite markets around- super curated vintage, upcycled and recycled vintage goodies and in the city I live, Takoma Park! Enjoy these shots of my vintage inspired and old-fashioned goods (soy candles in vintage containers, literary coasters, vintage vases, old books, etc.) and other beautiful things from the day.

Breakfast with Audrey

In honor of this amazing woman's birthday (she would have been 85 yesterday! Really puts it into perspective how old my grandfather is, who is 86), I'm imagining a breakfast with Audrey which would definitely include Leslie Knope approved pancakes, pound cakes, fruit and cream.

Opening Day at Fenton Street Market

Ah, it's good to be back home. Know the feeling? It's like stepping through your front door after a long trip. This was a super long winter and even though I've snuck in a market here and there, the season doesn't really feel like it's in the full swing until Fenton Street Market opens back up in April.

Travel, Monet, Giverny and French Love

My mom travels a lot - to the point where I generally don't know where she is in the world, but this time is different. She's off on a trip driving from Amsterdam through France. Right before she left, she casually slips into conversation that she may stop by Giverny if there's time. You gotta make time for that!

Earth Day Goodness: A Candle Experiment by Sister Eden

Last season, I met a neighbor at Fenton Street Market that also has an awesome blog called Sister Eden. Lori bought a few soy candles from me as she's on a mission to live a more eco-friendly and responsible lifestyle. Recently, she contacted me about doing an experiment- pitting my candles up against some paraffin wax candles and beeswax candles to test the burn time, proving that these alternative candle options would not just be eco-friendly but practical- they last longer than those paraffin wax death traps. Check out the video and her full post on her blog of the results and so much thanks to Sister Eden for doing this experiment!

Weddings Galore for the Premiere Indie Bridal Party

One of the events that I'm most excited to participate in this year is today's Indie Bridal Party. It is basically a handmade, local awesomeness bridal show for cool brides. I'm one of many vendors exhibiting so if you don't already have tickets yet, you definitely gotta get some! It's happy hour style with drinks, live music, a photobooth and tons of more fun- a perfect way to unwind on a Thursday while simultaneously being productive and knocking some wedding planning out of the way.

The Past Lives of Handmade Habitat

You may not know about my past life if you've only come across my candles in the past few years, but way back when I first started selling at markets, I made bags, clothes and scarves. I was a sewer by nature. Obviously, my business has evolved A LOT since then, and it's time for me to move on in life.

New Stockist: Trohv

I'm super excited to share that you can now see my collection of soy candles, soy-beeswax blend candles, solid perfumes, eye pillows, sachets and sassy matchbooks at Trohv in Takoma, DC!

Silver Spring Festival Recap

I tried a new display for the Silver Spring Festival last weekend - a display you can walk all the way around. Check out this video of it by The Blairs and enjoy the steel drum background music - Saturday was almost like Spring!

Been doing crazy amounts of work this week- stay tuned for some exciting news! The amount of coffee shops you find me in is a direct correlation to the amount of work I am doing. hehe

P.S. I love the tables at Capital City Cheesecake in Takoma Park.
