Lately: Custom Wedding Orders

It's officially wedding season! I have been getting a lot of custom wedding orders on Etsy lately and wanted to share some of my favorites:

It's a Process

As business gets busier and busier, I find myself knee deep in candle making more often than not. This batch above is for a bridal shower this weekend. I don't want to spoil the surprise for the bride whose Maid of Honor ordered these for her, so I won't be showing final pictures until after the shower- but believe me, you're going to want to stay tuned for these babies- they're some of my all time favorites!

Breakfast with Audrey

In honor of this amazing woman's birthday (she would have been 85 yesterday! Really puts it into perspective how old my grandfather is, who is 86), I'm imagining a breakfast with Audrey which would definitely include Leslie Knope approved pancakes, pound cakes, fruit and cream.

Travel, Monet, Giverny and French Love

My mom travels a lot - to the point where I generally don't know where she is in the world, but this time is different. She's off on a trip driving from Amsterdam through France. Right before she left, she casually slips into conversation that she may stop by Giverny if there's time. You gotta make time for that!

New in the Shop: Lovely Jane & Elizabeth Pillows

New pillows in the shop: Jane loves Bingley & Elizabeth loves Darcy

I believe that everyone is one of the Bennet daughters, or at least wants to be. I aspire to be as mild-mannered as Jane and as witty as Elizabeth, though I do already have my own dangerously divine Mr Darcy. You may have met him at a craft show.

Enjoy my new favorite pillows - perfect little throws for beds, couches and cozy chairs - and room brightening- just in time for spring.

So Soothing

What goes in those eye pillows that smell so lovely.

Radiant Orchid

At first I wasn't really feeling this year's Pantone color of the year, but I'm starting to get into it. Really only because I stumbled upon these bea-uuu-tiful containers this week now filled with the loveliest French Love soy candles. They've been sitting on my studio table and every time I walk in there, it's like a breath of fresh French hills. See for yourself.

Grapefruit Month

After this weekend, I have determined that what I'm missing in my life is Spring. Did you know that February is National Grapefruit Month? Should be May instead. In any case, you might like a little citrusy-ness, if you're like me and are missing your good ol' pal Spring. Here in the shop.

Two in One Love Stories

Those who know me best know that I am a crazy sucker for 90s RomComs. Like I could probably recite the entirety of You've Got Mail to you. You know the opening scenes of The Mindy Project's pilot - that's basically based on my life.

So two love stories in one here today, in the spirit of all that is lovely and romantic for Valentine's Day. This year, each of my candle scents is going to have a signature book attached to it. For pomegranate, it's Pride and Prejudice - two favorites.

Don't you just love that scene in You've Got Mail when Joe Fox says this line? It's one of my favorite things in the world. Versions of Mr Darcy that I love: Colin Firth (VHS Pride & Prejudice), Tom Hanks (You've Got Mail), Colin Firth again (in Bridget Jones' Diary) and this new super cute guy- Matthew MacFadyen (new Pride & Prejudice with Keira Knightly). These are my cultural reference points. ;)

For those of you in love with pomegranate and Pride and Prejudice, this candle is for you. Covered in the pages of Elizabeth vs Darcy and Jane pining for Bingley, this candle will literally warm your heart. Check it out in the shop.

Now in the Shop: Vintage Container Candles

I've finally added some of my vintage container candles to the shop! I sold out of them like crazy around the holidays. These are all new for 2014 and some of my personal favorite scents and containers in the world.

Fruit blossom in white and pink

Sweet Lavender Vanilla in the most French country-esque teacups in the world

Sweet Lavender Vanilla in containers that remind me of my grandmother for some reason

& Ooh La Rose just in time for heart day this Friday. And oh no, it is not too late to order.

A Golden Girl

A Golden Girl.
Some new treats in gold tins made their debut last night at the Fenton Street Market Valentine's Pop-Up. New gold tin candles and solid perfumes are now in the shop in specialty, limited edition fragrances. The solid perfumes are to die for, if I do say so myself. Enjoy.

New in the Shop: For Your Honey

Just in time for Valentine's Day, beeswax-soy blend pillar and votive candles for your honey.

New: Wuthering Heights Coasters

This winter I've decided to bone up on what I should have gotten out of a high school English curriculum. High school is a waste of time. I read Wuthering Heights when I was 14 years old. The only part I remembered is that really disturbing part where Heathcliff opens up Catherine's grave and asks that guy to leave the side of their caskets open towards each other so they would rot together in eternity or something. It is literally the only thing I remembered about the entire book.

Lucky for me, I live two miles away from the best used book store ever. And it's rare to find these Modern Library books with the cover still on it. I found one of those Modern Library copies of Wuthering Heights and read it cover-to-cover in about two days. It's one of those books you can't put down.

I had one set of Wuthering Heights coasters already in the shop- a quote from the scene after Catherine Earnshaw is proposed to by Edgar Linton but she reveals to Nelly the housekeeper that she is truly in love with Heathcliff.

And after re-reading the whole story, I decided that the lovers of Wuthering Heights - generation by generation needed an ode to their crazy love square and triangle, respectfully. Behold!

See generation one of these literary lovers here in the shop, and the loves of their children (the second generation) here in the shop. Just in time for Valentine's Day.

P.S. if you're wondering about the coolest spoon rest in the world, find it in this Etsy shop. Though, they may be out of stock.

New to the Shop: Aromatherapy Eye Pillows

I am in love with these babies. They are perfect - relaxing, simple, plus they smell good. Yumm. I've been making them for a while, but couldn't keep them in stock long enough to list them in my Etsy shop. This week, I am proud to say that I actually accomplished something off of my To-Do list: I made and listed a few varieties of flax seed and lavender eye pillows in the shop.

Calm was the most popular during the holidays, followed by Ohm and with Rest bringing up the rear, but when making them for the shop, I decided to forgo Rest and replace it with Dream instead. Much more luxurious.

These little eye - or dream pillows, as they are affectionately known around my studio - are filled with organic lavender and organic flax seed making them muchos eco-friendly and delicious smelling.

They are perfect during shavasana in yoga, as well as for curing headaches and body aches with a simple go-around in the microwave. Yea, you need one now? Yoga-cessories are essential in January. Check 'em out in the shop!

A Gift Guide to Candles - Candles for Everyone!

I make candles. I love candles. Candles are great for everyone. I know everyone always buys candles as gifts, but you know why - it's because they are amazing! I see tons of people buy my candles at markets, and I think I've successfully typecast each candle to its perfect recipient. So no matter what kind of person you're shopping for this holiday season, I think I have a candle that would be perfect for them.

Grapefruit: Sweet & Spunky. Grapefruit packs a punch. Just like Mindy Kaling, it's sweet with a little bit of spunk that will make you smile. Sidebar- if you haven't been watching The Mindy Project, I hate you for causing it to go on hiatus. It is my No. 01 favorite show. Period. 9.5 oz Grapefruit Soy Candle in the Shop

Pomegranate: Classy as Shit. Pomegranate is a great go-to fragrance to give as a gift. It can go anywhere, in anyone's house, all year round. It's the most popular fragrance that I have, and a good safe bet, just like Marion Cotillard. Who doesn't want to be her? Classy is always the way to go. 9.5 oz Pomegranate Soy Candle in the Shop

Vanilla: Sweet as Pie. This vanilla is sweet like sugar, spice and everything nice. Meryl Streep is my vanilla. She's amazing, she's sweet - especially in this old picture of her. And you'd always want her around. Vanilla - for the naysayers - is NOT a boring fragrance, flavor or anything. It's amazing! It's simple, it's sweet and it's a crowd pleaser. I love it. 14 oz Vanilla Soy Candle in the Shop

Lavender: For Soft Souls. Corinne Bailey Rae is my kind of pop icon, in the way that she's kind of the anti-icon. She doesn't go out of her way to be heard or make a statement; she makes great music and she seems like an amazing, laid back person. Her music puts me at ease and it's just about the only thing I listen to. Lavender is a good fit for her - calm, reliable, amazing. 8 oz Lavender Soy Candle in the Shop

Cedarwood: The Woodsman. Life is not complete without a super manly, cedarwood candle, embodied by who other than Nick Offerman. The man is a real life woodworking celebrity. If there was ever a candle to put a smile on a man's face, it's cedarwood. Mr. Handmade Habitat requests them on the reg for his personal use and burns them all the time. If there's one way to keep him happy, it's with a full stock of cedarwood candles. 14 oz Cedarwood Candle in the Shop

I hope you've enjoyed this guide as much as I have enjoyed putting it together!

Note: These pairings are based on my perception of these amazing, talented people- not their actual tastes.

TODAY 12/11 is the last day to place an order for Christmas socks!

How about some hand-knitted socks for Christmas?? These are all made to order so be sure to order them today! The yoga socks are particularly popular. And a perfect gift. Plus you can order them in any color you like!

A Very Green Holiday - the Latest from Luri & Wilma

The latest from Luri and Wilma is finally out and guess who's socks, candles and face makes an appearance in it? This guyyy's! (Remember my preview??) I had so much fun hanging out with the Luri & Wilma team for this photo shoot which was filled with wine, freshly baked cookies, crafts and lounging about in adorable pajamas and my cozy handmade socks. Basically all of my favorite things.

The magazine has officially - and mas successfully - completed their first full YEAR in print and I'm so happy for them! I modeled in the first and last print issues of the year and I can't even believe that it was just in the Spring that the ladies put out the first print edition. It seems like a lifetime ago. Anyway, support this amazing magazine and buy it in PRINT! You can get your own adorable soy candles and socks in my shop. Just in time for the holi-daze. Which is what it really feels like right now.

The Holidays are a-Comin'

I've been spending the week getting my shop ready for the holidays with new gift wrap options, new holiday scented soy candles in Cinnamon Orange Clove and Enchanted Forest Pine, and more matchbooks to make your paper craft side giggle with glee. Imagine graph paper, handwriting paper and envelope liner matchbooks. What perfect little stocking stuffers.

Get them all this Saturday at Fenton Street Market! 10am - 4pm in downtown Silver Spring.

September Pairings: 8 oz Candle + 4 Matches = One Great Birthday Present

September is the most common birthday month. I've learned that over the years. Oh January has some cold nights doesn't it? ;)

So in honor of birthday month, I'm offering a special in the shop - any 8 oz candle paired with any set of 4 matchbooks is discounted at only $20! You can find the listing right here. Personally, I'm a big fan of the Wish Hard set or the Happy Day matchbook set because then you get out of getting a birthday card! And it is so hard to be consistently awesome, funny, quirky and amazing all in one card every year. This, on the other hand, says all those things for you. ;)
